Frank’s Barber Shop Closes

A long-time fixture of Germantown Avenue has closed up shop.

The sign on the door of Frank’s Barber Shop tells the story.

The sign reads:

Frank’s Barber Shop is now CLOSED. Thank you friends for your loyal patronage over the past 75 years. You have been much more than customers, you have been very good buddies and we have shared many great times and memories together. I am retired. Thank you! Frank

Frank’s Barber Shop is a fixture on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.

Frank Salemno has been cutting hair for longer than many of us have been alive. Salemno celebrated his 90th birthday last summer.

His shop has been closed multiple times in the past several years, always marked by a sign on a window of his shop.

Two summers ago, Patch talked to Salemno as part of our time capsule series about what life was like in the area decades ago. Among other things, Salemno told Patch about how he was approached to be a drug drop off spot, but he turned down the $500 per week payoff.

We wish Frank Salemno well in his retirement.

Please add your well wishes to the comments area, and for men looking for a new barber, I’m sure recommendations would be appreciated.
