Seneca Valley Hires Former NFL Player, Alum As Football Coach

A former NFL offensive lineman is returning to his high school alma mater to coach the football team.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — The Seneca Valley School District has hired Don Barclay, a former NFL player, as its new high school football coach. School directors unanimously approved the hire on Monday.

Barclay, 35, will succeed Ron Butschle, who retired after last season.

Barclay graduated from Seneca Valley in 2007. He played college football at West Virginia University, four seasons with the Green Bay Packers and one season with the Detroit Lions.

"Seneca Valley has always been home for me,” Barclay said in a district release. "Growing up here gave me opportunities, from the school system itself to the facilities. I’m excited to pass on my knowledge and give back to the place that shaped me.”

While attending Seneca Valley, Barclay was a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball until ninth grade and basketball through his sophomore year before focusing on football.
