CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Heading out to a patch or field to pick the best or biggest pumpkin isn’t just about finding the perfect Halloween jack-o-lantern. It’s a seasonal activity blending nature, tradition and community, and there are several places around Pittsburgh to create lasting memories with family and friends.

Many pumpkin patches and fields offer complementary activities like hay rides, corn mazes and games for the kids. Picking your own pumpkin also is a good way to support the local farmers who grow them.

Whether you plan to carve a jack-o’-lantern or just add some festive flair to your stoop, there are plenty of places to pick up a pumpkin near Pittsburgh Here are a few of our favorites:

Soergel Orchards, Wexford

Fall festivals will run every Friday from 5 p.m.-7 pm.,Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. through October 26.

Trax Farm, Finleyville

Runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. through October 26. The fall festival is free, but a hayride ticket is required for the pumpkin patch and corn maze.

Simmons Farm, McMurray

Fall Activities plus Hayride or harvest trail with any size pumpkin in the field, no weighing needed, for $23. Free Admission to the Farm. Pumpkins are paid for at the pumpkin tent and activities are paid for at the ticket booth.

Harvest Valley Farm, Gibsonia

There is free admission to the farm. Pumpkins are paid for at the pumpkin tent and activities are paid for at the ticket booth.
