BROOKLINE, PA — Pittsburgh Brookline school's grade and enrollment configuration would change significantly under a massive consolidation plan Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Public Schools directors are considering.

Under a proposal released Tuesday, Brookline and Langley K-8 would switch to K-5 schools. Brookline students in grades 6-8 would attend a newly consolidated Pittsburgh Carmalt 6-8 nearby. Carmalt also will absorb South Brook 6-8 students.

The current Carmalt magnet program would be phased out, with students in kindergarten through grade 5 attending either Brookline K-5 or West Liberty K-5.

In the city school system's south-west region, five schools are recommended for closure: Pittsburgh Carrick High School, South Brook 6-8, South Hills 6-8, Roosevelt K-5 and Whittier K-5. As part of the plan, Pittsburgh Carrick would merge with Pittsburgh Brashear, creating a career and technical center in the Carrick building to serve students in grades 9-12 and community members in the evening.
