Dormont Borough Website Wins State Award
The Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs awarded Dormont Borough first place for the design of its website.

Dormont Borough launched a brand new website in January 2009, but by January 2012, the same site left something to be desired.
Fortunately, recent improvements have again gained positive attention for the website.
Borough manager Jeff Naftal said he was notified in late April that the Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs named Dormont Borough’s website one of the best of all borough websites in Pennsylvania in 2013.

The state association holds a contest each year to determine the best website, and after making a number of improvements to Dormont’s site, Naftal decided to enter.
The website was one of the first things he wanted to improve when he became borough manager, Naftal said, and gaining this recognition for the borough was rewarding.

“There was a static template on it the first time, so there were no drop-down bars,” he said. “You kind of had to already know where you wanted to go to find anything.”
The new design includes drop-down boxes and designated areas on the homepage for recent news and announcements, as well as upcoming events.
Naftal said more improvements are on the way.
Information is still being added to some portions of the website, including the police department’s page. Members of all departments also will be trained on how to update their own portions of the websites, so that information from all borough departments can be consistently updated online.
