15 Central Bucks Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Students from each of Central Bucks' three high schools qualified for the semifinals of the National Merit Scholarship Program.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — More than a dozen Central Bucks students were named Wednesday as semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program competition. The district’s semifinalists include eight students from Central Bucks South, five students from Central Bucks East and two from Central Bucks West.

The Central Bucks students are among 16,000 semifinalists who qualified by posting one of the state’s highest scores on the 2020 Preliminary SAT, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Semifinalists must submit an application with a recommendation from an official at their high school to earn a spot as a finalist. The corporation is set to award about 7,500 scholarships worth almost $30 million by the end of July 2022.

Those merit scholarships include about 4,000 sponsored by colleges and universities, 2,500 sponsored by the nonprofit’s own funds and about 1,000 provided by corporations and businesses. Scholarship winners will be announced next spring.
