Hilltown Township Police Chief Christopher Engelhart told NBC10 the pilot was a hero for avoiding striking nearby homes.
The Federal Aviation Administration told Patch in a statement that the aircraft was a Beechcraft BE35 which took off from Doylestown Airport and was en route to Gunden Airport in Perkasie.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the crash investigation, with the FAA assisting, a representative confirmed. After investigators verify the aircraft registration number, the FAA will release that information.
This is the second private plane crash in the area in the past year. An aircraft crashed in Buckingham back in June, killing pilot Martin Sailer Jr., 79.
