Gurnee, IL—211 Illinois is pleased to announce the launch of its Statewide Resource Directory, an extensive online platform designed to connect residents with essential health and human services across the state. This comprehensive health and human service directory is a user-friendly interface for individuals seeking assistance with housing, food, financial assistance, healthcare, and more and can be accessed at www.211illinois.org, by clicking on the "Search for Help" button.

The 211 service, designated by the Federal Communications Commission in 2000, serves as a critical link between individuals and local resources. In 2024, the 211 Illinois network fielded 174,000 requests. The service is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

The new Statewide Resource Directory provides another way for individuals and families to get help 24 hours a day. By providing an online searchable tool, it empowers users to search for assistance programs and self-refer to local programs tailored to their specific needs and locations. This initiative aligns with 211 Illinois's commitment to expanding service coverage and ensuring that all residents have access to the support they need.

“Access to essential health and human services should never depend on where you live," said Edward Perry, Executive Director of 211 Illinois." Our new Statewide Resource Directory bridges the gap for residents in areas without direct 2-1-1 coverage, ensuring that everyone in Illinois can find the support they need. This online tool is a major step toward achieving our goal of statewide access to critical services and empowering individuals and families with reliable, up-to-date resources at their fingertips."

Recently, an Illinois resident received much needed employment support in DuPage County. A young man diagnosed with autism reached out to 2-1-1 for help. He recently lost his job. He was confused and overwhelmed by his situation. He had no idea what to do next. The 2-1-1 Call Center Operator talked with him and made sure he was heard and respected and helped him sort through his story and his needs. He was provided with clear and simple information on local and state resources that might help him. A referral for vocational training for adults with disabilities was provided. Since he lost his job, a referral for a food pantry near his home was also provided. At the end of the call, he felt a sense of relief. He had a much clearer plan on how to proceed and how he could begin addressing his immediate and future needs.
