Boy Finds Grenade In Bucks Co. Backyard During Treasure Hunt
The grenade and other items were removed by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department's Ordnance Disposal Unit.
PERKASIE, PA — A 7-year-old Perkasie boy found an old grenade in his backyard while on a treasure hunt with a friend last weekend, according to police.
The kids were playing in the 500 block of Middle Road on Sunday when they found a box labeled “840 cartridges, 5.56 mm" the boy’s mother, Jamie Hunt, told NBC10. The box, found under tree branches, contained a grenade, mortar tips and fuses, Hilltown Township Police Chief Chris Engelhart told Patch.
Parents called Hilltown Township police after learning about the grenade. Police then contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department’s Ordnance Disposal Unit, which consulted with military officials about the items, Engelhart said.

The Montgomery County bomb squad X-rayed the items and found the grenade was empty and inert, but were unsure about the mortar tips and fuses, Engelhart said. The squad then removed the items from Hunt's backyard in Perkasie, he said.
Police did not evacuate any residents from the area due to the items, Engelhart said.
