BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Lifelong Bucks County resident and public servant Bob Harvie (D) has announced his campaign for U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District.

A former public school teacher, Falls Township Supervisor, and current Bucks County Commissioner, Harvie has spent his adult life serving the community.

“I’m running for Congress because I love this country, I love this community - hardworking, patriotic, middle-class Americans. But Washington isn't working for us anymore,” said Harvie. “People are working longer and harder but still can’t get ahead. The American Dream is slipping further out of reach, and Washington politicians are more focused on serving lobbyists, special interests, and unelected billionaires like Elon Musk than fighting for working families.”

Harvie emphasized the need for new leadership in Congress — someone who understands the challenges everyday Pennsylvanians face and will work to lower costs, create jobs, and invest in the future.

“I’ve seen firsthand what bad policies from Washington do to our communities. During the second Trump administration, we’re seeing the worst of those policies on overdrive that are hurting working families,” Harvie said. “We deserve better.”

Harvie said his campaign will focus on restoring the promise of the American Dream by fighting for policies that help families own homes, build wealth, retire with dignity, and create a brighter future for their children and grandchildren. With a strong campaign, he believes this seat can be flipped to deliver real results for the people of Pennsylvania’s first district.

“I’m proud to fight for this community because we need someone who is hungry to build the middle class. I believe we deserve a return to fairness. I believe that when you work hard, you’ve earned the right to own a home, to buy the car you want, put in a pool, see your kids and grandkids afford to live in the community you grew up in and that you retire with dignity,” Harvie added.

Harvie has a track record of electoral success, making history as a key figure in Bucks County’s Democratic leadership. In 2019, he was part of the first Democratic majority elected to the Bucks County Board of Commissioners in almost 40 years — an achievement that broke decades of Republican control. In 2023, voters reaffirmed their trust in his leadership by re-electing him and Commissioner Diane Marseglia by an even wider countywide margin of victory, marking the first time Democrats have maintained their majority on the board since the Civil War.

Harvie’s victories demonstrate his ability to build broad coalitions, deliver bipartisan results, and win tough races in a competitive district — experience that will be critical in flipping PA-01 and securing a Democratic victory in Congress.

“Bob Harvie is one of the most decent, honest men I have ever run across, and he is exactly what we need in Washington,” said Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia. “Bob is the first in his family to go to college, a former public school teacher, and he understands the struggles our families face because he’s lived them. He leads with integrity, he listens, and he gets things done. He is the kind of person my family raised me to believe should be holding a seat in Congress — someone who fights for people, not for special interests. It is time for a change, and Bob Harvie is the strongest candidate Democrats have put forward in years."

Harvie’s campaign for Congress is endorsed by leaders across the district including former Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy, former Democratic Congressman Peter Kostmayer, and previous Democratic nominees for PA-01 Ashley Ehasz and Scott Wallace.

Harvie is also endorsed by Bucks County Democratic Party Chair State Senator Steve Santarsiero, Montgomery County Democratic Party Chair Jason Salus, Bucks County Democratic Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, Montgomery County Commissioners Jamila Winder and Niel Makijha, and the members of the Harrisburg Democratic Legislative delegation that encompasses the district including State Senator Maria Collet, Rep. Tina Davis, Rep Jim Prokopiak, Rep. Brian Munroe, Rep. Tim Brennan, Rep. Perry Warren, and Rep. Steve Malagari.
