Chalfont Woman Charged In Assault On Wheelchair-Bound Family Member

Police in Warrington said a dispute over money escalated into an aggravated assault charge.

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A Chalfont woman is facing multiple charges after police say she struck a wheelchair-bound family member with a walker.

Warrington Township Police have charged 37-year-old Stephanie Chan with aggravated assault, a first degree felony; terroristic threats; simple assault; obstruction of law enforcement; possession of an instrument of crime; and harassment.

Police responded to a home on Lincoln Circle on Oct. 7 for a domestic disturbance. An investigation revealed that during a dispute over money, Chan assaulted a wheelchair-bound family member who is recovering from a stroke.

Police said an argument began over a bill Chan wanted the victim to pay. During the argument, police said Chan became upset and lifted a walker over her head. The victim was able to move out of the way with the walker striking the victim's hand. Officers observed two minor bleeding wounds on the victim's fingers.

Police said the victim had called 911, which remained on the line as officers were responding and could hear Chan saying, “If you don’t pay the bills, I will kill you” twice.

When officers arrived on scene Chan had both the cell phone and a land line phone.

Chan was placed under arrest and transported to the police station for processing. She was arraigned by Judge Stacy Wertman who set bail at $100,000 or 10 percent cash. Chan was unable to post bail and was transported to the Bucks County Correctional Facility to await court action.
