Comic Book, Gaming Store To Open In Plumstead Township

The Nook is bringing comic books, gaming and more to Plumstead Township.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA — Like so many others, Andrew Frazier lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 28-year-old Plumstead Township resident had been working for a Philadelphia area company that focused on outdoor education, a vocation that suited his passion for being outdoors and working with children. The pandemic forced him to stay home, which allowed for plenty of self-reflection.

He thought a lot about his childhood. He had always loved comic books, video games and reading Manga, but it always felt more like a private hobby than a shared community.

"When I was growing up, you had to be on the 'hush hush' a little bit," Frazier said. "You're afraid to express who you are because of bullying."

Thus came the idea to open a safe space for like-minded gaming and graphic novel enthusiasts of all ages.

"The whole idea of the store was to base it around community after COVID," he said. "I thought that was something we were all lacking."

The Nook, a 1,400 square-foot space in the Plumstead Shopping Center, sells comic books, video games, Manga comics and tabletop games. Frazier said he also plans to host tournaments for players of Magic: The Gathering card game and video gamers.

The store is holding a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., July 24, and Sun., July 25, which will include a raffle drawing.

Normal store hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday through Saturday, with an after hours slot for gaming nights; and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

More information about The Nook is available on Facebook, Instagram and their website.
