DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Friends of the Heart Institute recently presented Doylestown Health officials with a $2 million check to support the hospital’s “award-winning” cardiovascular care.

The Friends of the Heart Institute is a volunteer community organization with more than 400 members whose goal is to advance nationally recognized cardiovascular care at Doylestown Health. The organization in 2017 set a goal of raising $1 million, then doubled that goal in 2020.

Over the past five years, the organization’s fundraising campaign has received nearly 3,500 donations from 600 donors, according to a release.

The campaign played a major role in the design, research and construction of Doylestown Health’s Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion, which opened in December 2019.

Donations to the campaign have also supported outreach and education efforts, investments in updated cardiac equipment, and “Walk With a Doc,” a community exercise and education program.

Sara Moyer, co-chair of the Friends of the Heart Institute’s steering committee, thanked donors for supporting cardiovascular care at Doylestown Health and making it “one of the best in the nation.”

“What Friends of the Heart Institute has been able to accomplish through community support is nothing short of remarkable,” Moyer said in the release.

The organization’s campaign met its goal several months ahead of schedule, but it will continue fundraising to build a new catheterization lab and renovate an existing lab at Doylestown Health.

The Friends of the Heart Institute has raised more than $3.2 million since 1978, when it was established as the $100 Heart Club, the release states.
