DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown Health has begun administering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible patients on an invite-only basis, hospital officials confirmed Wednesday.

The health care provider is calling patients in its network who are most at-risk and meet the criteria of Phase 1A to schedule them for appointment, hospital spokesperson Beth Long confirmed Wednesday. That includes residents of long-term care facilities, health care workers, seniors and people aged 16-64 with high-risk conditions.

"Doylestown Health has the capability to risk-stratify the most vulnerable patients through our electronic medical records," Long said. "These records have demographic and clinical information that seamlessly interfaces with the PA Department of Health and CDC to expedite a patient’s registration to receive the vaccine. Every week, Doylestown Health provides primary care and specialist physician practices a variable number of vaccine appointments depending on the current supply. Physician practices call their patients and help them schedule the vaccine for the following week. These efforts are designed to administer vaccine in the most efficient way to the most vulnerable patients."

Doylestown Health officials caution that vaccine supply remains limited and are urging patients not to contact the hospital or their doctor to schedule a vaccination. Vaccine allocations to the health care provider are determined on a week-by-week basis by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The network is currently operating vaccine clinics at Doylestown Hospital and at the Doylestown Health Urgent Care center in Buckingham Township. All inoculations are by invitation only and clinic hours vary depending on how much vaccine supply is available.

The hospital received its first shipment of the vaccine mid-December and has since offered the vaccine to all staff members in the Doylestown Health network, Long said. More than half of the network's unaffiliated healthcare workers have been vaccinated, well above the state required minimum of 10 percent, she added.
