DOYLESTOWN, PA — Doylestown Hospital earned an inaugural 2021 Hospital Quality & Safety Award for its commitment to quality improvement, according to a news release Friday.
The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health recognized Doylestown Hospital among a small group of other hospitals from southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and South Jersey.

The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health seeks to increase the value of health benefit spending for the region’s employers. The business coalition serves as the Leapfrog Regional Leader for southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware for the Leapfrog Group Hospital and Ambulatory surveys, a national initiative encouraging facilities to voluntarily disclose quality and safety data.
In November, Doylestown Hospital earned an eleventh consecutive “A” grade for patient safety with an “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for Fall 2021. Only 124 hospitals in the U.S. have maintained an “A” grade for 11 consecutive cycles, and only two have done so in Pennsylvania.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,”“D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on 22 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as harm prevention systems in hospitals.
“Both the Leapfrog Survey and Safety Grade are important tools that promote transparency and the attainment of ever greater patient safety — tools that Doylestown Hospital takes seriously,” Brexler said. “We view this award as another step in the continuous journey of improvement.”
To qualify for the inaugural business coalition award, hospitals must have received a "B" or higher in the spring and fall safety grades.
In addition, the hospital must report on all applicable measures on the 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Survey and must have Achieved the Standard for at least 10 out of the 14 Survey measures selected by the coalition.
Data and findings from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey provide consumers and employers valuable information on hospital quality and safety.
“Our employer members appreciate the drive toward greater transparency and patient safety,”
said Neil Goldfarb, GPBCH President and CEO during a recent virtual awards ceremony hosted
by the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health and the Health Care Improvement Foundation.
Established in 2012, the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH) is a membership organization open to any employer that is corporately-based or has a significantly employed population in the area.
