Gorsky Heart And Vascular Suite Opens At Penn Medicine Doylestown
The universal hybrid operating suite will enable heart and vascular surgeons to employ the latest technology and diagnostics.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Penn Medicine Doylestown Health (PMDH) celebrated a new state-of-the-art universal hybrid operating room during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the newly dedicated Gorsky Heart and Vascular Suite at Doylestown Hospital.
The universal hybrid operating suite, or “universal lab,” will enable heart and vascular surgeons, electrophysiologists, and interventional cardiologists to employ the latest technology and diagnostics, including dimensional visualization, ultrasound, anesthesia vitals, and intraoperative vital signs in a wide range of routine and complex procedures to diagnose and treat heart, vascular and arrhythmia conditions.
For more than three decades, Pat and Alex Gorsky have been dedicated supporters of PMDH. A former nurse, Pat Gorsky is a member of the Doylestown Health Foundation Board of Trustees. Alex Gorsky is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson. He currently sits on the boards of Apple, IBM and the Travis Manion Foundation, and serves on the Business Council and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Board of Advisors.

The Gorskys’ generous $4 million donation helped to make the new Universal Lab a reality, increasing access and improving patient outcomes for PMDH’s cardiovascular patients. “Stepping up and supporting the programs here (at Doylestown Hospital) is the right thing to do … we're eternally grateful to all who work here. They are what makes this hospital what it is today,” said Pat Gorsky.
The Gorsky Heart and Vascular Suite encompasses an advanced hybrid procedural room, six catheterization/electrophysiology labs, and now a new, state-of-the art universal lab. In addition to the Gorskys’ generous support, the universal lab project was funded by a $1 million Community Project Funding grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development through the 2023 Federal Consolidated Appropriations Act facilitated by the support of Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, as well as unrestricted Doylestown Health Foundation donor funds.

“We can have all the technology in the world, but serving our patients with warmth and compassion is one of the hallmarks of Penn Medicine Doylestown Health’s heart and vascular program,” said PMDH Chief Executive Officer Jim Brexler. “The consistent and dedicated support we receive from individuals like Pat and Alex Gorsky is just one example of the incredible connection that we have with this community and the value that they place on the work that we do here.”
David Boland, MD, an interventional cardiologist who serves as medical director of the hospital’s catheterization lab noted that the hospital’s new universal hybrid operating suite, “represents more than an advanced medical space—it represents a true commitment to the treatment of cardiovascular disease here in our community. We are better equipped than ever to diagnose and treat heart disease with minimally invasive interventional, structural heart, electrophysiology and vascular procedures that save lives.”
Michele Clugston, CVT, RCIS is PMDH’s Director of the Catheterization, Electrophysiology, and Vascular Lab. She expressed her gratitude on behalf of the thousands of patients who, at their most vulnerable times, will benefit from minimally invasive options, increased safety and efficiency for more complex cases, and reduced recovery times. “The outcomes and flexibility that we wanted for those in our care are now a reality,” she said.
The first procedures, which included three cardiac catheterizations, were performed in the universal lab on April 2.
On the day of the ribbon-cutting, the Gorskys announced an additional $1 million commitment to the Doylestown Health Foundation’s Leading with Heart campaign, launched in honor of retired interventional cardiologist, Steven A. Guidera, MD. The campaign is intended to raise the $2 million necessary to renovate and equip the hospital’s oldest catheterization lab.
