Doylestown Students Get To Jam With Grammy-Nominated Heavy Metal Singer
A class of 65 from School of Rock Doylestown got a masterclass from the Lamb of God vocalist last week — plus, some performed with him.
DOYLESTOWN, PA — A Grammy-nominated vocalist and lyricist led an instructional workshop at School of Rock Doylestown last week, and even performed with some of the most advanced students.
Randy Blythe, known for his membership in the award-winning heavy metal band Lamb of God, visited the school to teach 65 kids all about music and tell stories of his trajectory as a musician. Last year, Lamb of God was cited by the music news site Consequence as being one of the most important artists of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal.
In an evening performance, Blythe joined School of Rock Doylestown's House Band, comprised of the school's most advanced young musicians, to perform a repertoire of Lamb of God's songs as well as songs that were influential to his musical development. He taught his fellow performers how to do vocal warm-up exercises and how to spice up their live performances.

“It was an absolute pleasure to work with the kids at the School of Rock Doylestown,” said Blythe, who has performed at music festivals around the world with Lamb of God. “The students were all well-rehearsed, super polite, and (most importantly) PRESENT while we were practicing for the evening’s performance. In this modern era of incessant technological distraction, to be around teenage kids who were 100 percent focused on expressing themselves in a creative manner and communicating with each other in the special way that only band members do made me so very happy."
He added that the songs they performed together "were not easy," and that he believes School of Rock Doylestown offers a valuable experience for young people.

"Playing music with other people is about effective communication and focusing on a common goal," he said. "I’ve always said the world would be a much better place if everyone could be in a band just once in their lives, and that is exactly what the School of Rock Doylestown provides!”
Lamb of God will be a headlining band on the Shiprocked Cruise in January of 2022, according to a news release.
