Storm Ravages Doylestown: Hospital Roof Ripped Off, Roads Closed

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Tropical Storm Isaias inflicted severe damage in Doylestown Tuesday, destroying buildings and cars, downing trees and power lines, and prompting water rescues. The most severe incident occurred at the Doylestown Hospital, where a part of the roof of the on-site daycare was ripped off.

Bucks County officials confirmed high winds partially ripped off the roof of Children's Village daycare at Doylestown Hospital. There are no reports of serious injuries, Bucks County confirmed.

Winds were strong enough to overturn a half dozen vehicles in parking lot.

Additionally in the Doylestown area, numerous traffic lights are out, there are fallen trees and wires, as well as flooding.

Doylestown Borough officials said around noon that State Street was blocked by trees and East and N. Main streets were experiencing flooding.

"Proceed with extreme caution and avoid mentioned areas," Central Bucks Regional Police warned.

Earlier in the day, officials confirmed there was a water rescue on County Line Road in New Britain. A pregnant woman had to be rescued from her car after it stalled in the water in the area, county officials confirmed.

Power outages are widespread in the area, with more than 3,700 customers without power in Doylestown Township and more than 2,200 out in the borough. In Buckingham Township, 6,000 customers have no power, and 3,554 more in Plumstead Township. Warrington is reporting 1,876 outages as of just before 2 p.m.

In total, more than 95,000 Bucks County residents have no power as of just before 2 p.m.

Other areas that experienced serious damage include Shady Grove Circle in Doylestown, according to footage from the ground.

The damage from the storm extends throughout the area.

In Warwick, a tree and wires are down on Bristol Road between Valley Road and Guinea Lane, officials said. Bristol Road is completely blocked. Police are asking residents to avoid the area.

In Buckingham Township, numerous road closures have been reported. Forest Grove Road between Dark Hollow and New Hope roads is closed; Creek Road between New Hope and Lower Mountain roads is closed; Pineville Road between Route 413 and Ridge Road is closed; and Burnt House Hill Road between Mechanicsville Road and Route 202 is closed.
