Lower State Road Reopens With New Culvert Over Mill Creek After 2 Month Closure
The original Doylestown box culvert was built in 1907. The structure supports the weight of an average 7,632 vehicles each day.
DOYLESTOWN, PA — Lower State Road has reopened between Bristol Road and Old New Road in Doylestown, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Friday.
The road had been closed and detoured since Jan. 3 for a box culvert replacement over a branch of Mill Creek. The original culvert had been operational since 1907.
The new box culvert will support an average of 7,632 vehicles each day, according to the news release.

This culvert is one of seven structures in the region that PennDOT is repairing or replacing under a state-funded $6.5 million project. Projects are underway in Bucks, Chester, and Montgomery counties.
Other structures completed in our area included the Richlandtown Pike over Cooks Creek in Springfield, and the nearby U.S. 1 and I-295 interchange ramps.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, New Jersey is the general contractor on the bridge/culvert improvement project. Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in winter of 2024.
