Mercer Museum, Fonthill Castle Get $44K In State Grants

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Bucks County will receive $44,052 in state funds to support the Bucks County Historical Society and the Trustees of the Mercer Fonthill Museum. Both entities support the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle.

The Bucks County Historical Society received $36,618, and the Trustees of the Mercer Fonthill Museum received $7,434, State Rep. Wendy Ullman announced.

The funds were awarded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program. The program provides general operating support to Pennsylvania museums and official county historical societies that are not directly supported by other state agencies operating support programs.

“This is great news for Bucks County’s cultural scene,” Ullman said. “The Bucks County Historical Society and the Trustees of the Mercer Fonthill Museum perform an invaluable service educating the public about Bucks County’s rich history. The Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle are treasures that have made Doylestown and greater Bucks County unique in the Delaware Valley region.”

The Bucks County Historical Society (BCHS) and the Trustees of the Mercer Fonthill Museum operate and oversee The Mercer Museum, the museum’s research library, the Spruance Library and the Fonthill Museum.

The BCHS collects, preserves and interprets the culture and history of Bucks County and the Delaware Valley region.

"As the primary inheritor of the material and intellectual legacy of Henry Chapman Mercer, the BCHS and the Trustees of the Mercer Fonthill Museum are custodians of a nationally significant collection of tools and artifacts that illuminate the history of pre-industrial America," Ullman said in an announcement.
