Mom Blasts PA's Sesame Place After Character Ignores Her Black Daughters

A video posted to Instagram shows the character wagging her finger and shaking her head as she passed the two girls during a parade.

LANGHORNE, PA — A Pennsylvania mother is calling out the Sesame Place theme park in Langhorne, claiming her two Black daughters were ignored by a character while watching a weekend parade.

The video posted to Instagram by a user named "Jodi" shows the two girls watching a parade while Sesame Street character Rosita high-fives other attendees. The girls reach out to Rosita as she approaches, but the character wags her finger and shakes her head as she passes the children.

"THIS DISGUSTING person blatantly told our kids NO then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us!" Jodi wrote in the Instagram post. In the post, she also said she asked to speak to a supervisor, but the staff couldn't tell her who was in charge.

The post sparked outrage on social media. Former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland also took to Instagram to call out the park.

Rowland shared the clip on her Instagram stories Sunday, Yahoo News reported. In another story, she shared a video message captioned, “TF! This just made me so mad!" Rowland went on to say if it had been her child, "that whole parade would’ve been in flames."

Sesame Place responded to the backlash in a statement posted to Instagram.

"The performer portraying the Rosita character has confirmed that the ‘no’ hand gesture seen several times in the video was not directed to any specific person, rather it was a response to multiple requests from someone in the crowd who asked Rosita to hold their child for a photo which is not permitted," park officials said in the statement. "The Rosita performer did not intentionally ignore the girls and is devastated about the misunderstanding."

Park officials went on to say they had reached out to the family, apologized and invited them to a special meet-and-greet with Sesame Place characters.

Meanwhile, the mother claimed she's had no communication with the park since her post went viral, according to Instagram story screenshots captured by The Shade Room.

"I wholeheartedly feel as though that statement was released to save face," she said. "I will re-post this video every day until it is rectified."
