In remembrance of the death of George Floyd, the NAACP Bucks County will host a memorial vigil and call to action Tuesday.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The NAACP Bucks County will host a George Floyd Memorial Vigil and Call to Action on Tuesday.
The event will take place at 5 p.m. at the old Bucks County Courthouse lawn at 55 E. Court St.
On May 25, 2020, former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, along with three other officers, knelt on the neck and back of George Floyd for 9 minutes and 29 seconds until he died. The officers had been called to the scene by a store clerk who reported that Floyd had allegedly passed a counterfeit $20 bill.

Months of protest and demands for police reform followed the incident, which was caught on video. On April 20, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all charges for the murder of George Floyd.
Following the vigil, the NAACP will hold a special virtual discussion of the Spike Lee film "Do the Right Thing," which was inspired by the racially motivated killing of Michael Griffith in New York City in 1986, as well as Eleanor Bumpurs, an elderly black woman who was killed by police in 1984. The conversation will be led by Wilbert Turner, associate professor at Delaware Valley University. You can register for the event here.
