PECO, Police Warn Of Scams In Warrington Township Area

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — PECO and the Warrington Township Police Department are warning local residents of an ongoing scam in the area.

PECO said it has seen an increase in reports of payment scams in Warrington Township, with scammers telling customers their electric or gas service will be disconnected unless they make a payment. The scammers are manipulating their numbers to appear as a PECO phone number on customers’ caller ID, the company said.

PECO said it never demands immediate payment, nor does the company require a specific form of payment, such as prepaid gift cards or digital currency.

The company is urging customers not to allow anyone claiming to be a PECO employee or contractor into their home unless they have proper identification. Customers should not pay workers directly, the company said.

Customers who receive suspicious calls from someone claiming to work for PECO should hang up and call the company at 1-800-494-4000. Customers can find more information on payment scams at peco.com/scams.
