DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH, PA — In the wake of a devastating fire in March at its South Main Street home, the Doylestown Historical Association has announced plans for a fundraiser as it works to rebuild.
The historians will be holding a Bingo Night fundraiser on Thursday, May 8 at the Albert Atkinson American Legion Post 210 at 315 North Street. And it’s inviting the community to come out to support the society as it raises funds to repair the damage.
“Grab your friends and family for a night of excitement and prizes - all for a great cause,” wrote the historians on Facebook.

A fire, believed to be electrical in nature, broke out on March 20 inside the society’s beloved Magill Schoolhouse at 56 South Main Street. Firefighters from numerous companies responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire but not before the blaze destroyed irreplaceable items and caused extensive damage to a building addition at the rear of the building.

Lost in the fire was a collection of millinery hats owed by Doylestown resident Lynne Anne Donchez. The hats had been on loan to the society as part of a program and video series. The fire also destroyed a number of costumes used throughout the years at Doylestown events, including Mrs. Santa Claus, Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam.
“The setback of the tragic fire will not deter us from serving our cherished community and we ask for your support as we maintain our resilience and rebuild,” said the historians. “We are excited to continue our programming for 2025 and to plan for the USA250 celebrations, which promise to be a momentous occasion as we commemorate this significant milestone in our nation’s history.”
The historians are also seeking sponsors to support its upcoming events, exhibits, and programming.
“In return for your generous support, we offer a range of recognition opportunities, including prominent placement of your logo on event materials, social media shout-outs, and special acknowledgment during our events, as well as guest speaker series lecture opportunities.”
