City Plans Centre Square Improvements
Easton will take ownership of square from PennDOT and get $665,000 to make upgrades in traffic circle.

Centre Square could soon get a few upgrades, thanks to $665,000 in state funds.
Easton City Council voted Wednesday night to take ownership of two stretches of city road from PennDOT: Northampton Street from Larry Holmes Drive to Seventh Street and N. Third Street from the square to Bushkill Street.
With that move comes a onetime $665,000 "turn-back payment" the city can use to replace all the wheelchair ramps and concrete walkways in the circle and for resurfacing the roads.
In a memo to council, city Public Works Director Dave Hopkins said the move is similar to one Easton made in 2009 when it took back Larry Holmes Drive. Hopkins said the city has two years to complete the improvements.
