Easton Art Show 'Reworks' Classics

Grand Eastonian hosts Masters Re-worked exhibit June 27 and 28.

One half of the picture looks familiar: the solemn 1930s farmer's daughter from Grant Wood's American Gothic.

But instead of her equally solemn father and his pitchfork, the other half of the picture is a photo instead of painting. The 1930s farmer has become a thirty-something dude holding a skateboard.

This is the world of "Masters Re-worked”, a new art exhibition opening at the Grand Eastonian this week, organized by Mercantile Home and the Nurture Nature Center.

Mercantile Home co-owner Ken Jones said the idea is for artits to "re-imagine, re-conceive, re-create, or re-produce a famous work of art. The sneak peeks we’ve been getting are very exciting.”

The works will be on display in Suite 203 of the Grand Eastonian starting Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from noon to 7 p.m.

Following that, select pieces will hang in rooms at the Grand Eastonian, and will go on sale at the end of the exhibit.
