Heatwave Puts the Brakes on Zucchini 500
Hot weather pushes annual Easton Farmers' Market event back one week.

How hot is it?
Too hot for zucchini racing, apparently.
The Easton Farmers Market says its annual Zucchini 500 race—which had been scheduled for Saturday morning—would be pushed back one week to July 27 due to the heat.
“We hated to reschedule, but feel that under the circumstances this is the best decision for all involved," organizers said in a news release. "Cooler temps are forecasted for the 27th and that will result in faster cars and more fun for kids!”
Saturday's forecast calls for 90 degree temperatures.
The Zucchini 500 is a variation on the Cub Scouts' Pinewood Derby, but instead of carving a little race car out of wood, the contestants make their cars from—as the name implies—zucchinis.
Racers compete in three categories: mid-sized, sports car and monster truck. The race is open to kids, adults and local business owners. A $6 entry fee gets you access to all the things you need to build your racer.
This year's race includes a new track created and donated by Eisenhardt Mills Inc. of Forks Township, and designed by Easton artist Joseph Gourniak.
