State Police: 686 Crashes in Pa. Over Holiday Weekend

Thirteen people were killed and 211 injured, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police investigated 686 crashes over the holiday weekend, they announced Tuesday morning.

In those crashes, 13 people were killed and another 211 injured, State Police said. Those fatality and injury numbers do not include accidents investigated by local police departments.

In addition to the crash investigations, State Police over the holiday weekend charged 545 people with driving under the influence. State Police said the 70 of the crashes investigated, including two of the fatalities, were alcohol-related.

State Police also issued 10,050 speeding citations; they also cited 813 people for not wearing seatbelts and 204 people for not properly securing children.

State Police investigated 661 car accidents over Labor Day weekend 2013, they said; in those crashes, 11 people were killed and 262 injured.
