Courts: Drug Charges, DUI Arrests in the Area

Here's a look at the reports from court this week.

The following cases recently were heard before District Judge Thomas Caulfield this week:

Kareem J. Cooper, 25, of Pittsburgh was held for court on charges of manufacturing with intent to deliver, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cooper was the passenger in a car stopped by Wilkins police Nov. 5 at the 3300 block of William Penn Highway and Penn Center. Police found a scale and phone battery in the car, along with what they believed to be cocaine residue. Swissvale K-9 officer David Zacchia and Brando assisted.

Ricardo Alfredo Apodaca, 28, of Saltsburg was held for court on two counts of driving under the influence and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was arrested by Wilkins police Sept. 21.

Jasmine Renee Adams, 22, of Turtle Creek waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of possession of a controlled substance and improper sunscreening on her car. She was arrested July 11 by Wilkins police. Police said the car windows were tinted too darkly. They also smelled marijuana upon pulling her over and found two plastic bags with the drugs inside along with a scale.

Marvelous G. Freeman, 25, of Wilkinsburg waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Wilkins police arrested him July 11 after they found a bag of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop.

Edward Schmidgeel of Swissvale waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of two counts of driving under the influence, failure to stop at a red signal and careless driving. Edgewood police arrested him Nov. 9 after a traffic stop in which he was found to have slurred speech and he failed sobriety tests.
