Edgewood Police Reports: Burglary, Retail Thefts, DUI Arrests

A look at this week's police reports.

The following reports are taken from police capsule:

Dec. 9

  • Police responded to a call involving a man laying on the ground in the borough, possibly intoxicated. The man was taken to Shadyside UMPC Presbyterian Hospital.
  • Police had a warrant for the arrest of a juvenile who failed to appear for aggravated assault. She also was stopped for retail theft at Edgewood Towne Center Giant Eagle. The juvenile was taken to Shuman Center then released to her mother.
  • Police responded to a retail theft at the Edgewood Towne Center Giant Eagle. Holly Beach attempted to take Crest White Strips and hair lightening spray valued at $50.19. She had no prior convictions. Giant Eagle is handling the case.
  • Edgewood Towne Center Radio Shack store manager Anne Marie Chesney reported that she was harrassed by two customers. Police were contacted 20 minutes after each incident and searched the area.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police in a domestic dispute involving three sisters and a possible knife.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Penn Hills police with a car accident.

  • Police responded to a hit and run accident near the Edgewood Towne Center Eat'n Park. Minor damage was reported.
  • A suspicious person was reported in a yard on Oakview. That person was gone when police arrived.
  • Two cars on the 1300 block of South Braddock Avenue had their tires slashed. No suspects found.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Swissvale police with a driving under the influence arrest. Joel West had a .184 percent blood alcohol content according to a breath test.

Dec. 11

  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg officers with a verbal domestic incident involving a knife in Wilkinsburg.
  • Officers assisted the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department with a possible fire on Locust. No fire was found and crews put out smoldering insulation.

  • Police responded to a student threatening another student at Edgewood Primary School.
  • A burglary was reported at 402 Railroad St. Someone entered through the rear basement door and took two laptops, a Nintendo console and $212 in cash.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police with a report of multiple shots fired near Franklin and Ella. Police secured three men running in the rear of a residence in the 1200 block of Franklin, one of whom was shot in the side. Two guns were recovered.
  • Police responded to a disturbance at the Wendy’s restaurant at Edgewood Towne Center after a woman reportedly verbally threatened the store manager after her burger did not have bacon on it. The woman left before police arrived.

Dec. 14

  • Police responded to a hit-and-run accident on South Braddock near the Parkway ramp. 
  • Police responded to Giant Eagle at Edgewood Towne Center after a man ate pasta without paying for it.
  • Police helped with a medical situation on Maple Avenue.

Dec. 15

  • A 13-year-old male at kicked out a door pane on the second floor after punching a locker. Police responded and discovered the boy arrived at school angry after an altercation on the bus. He was released to his father.
