Marijuana Found in Car, Student Charged with Possession of Knife

Here’s a look at the most recent hearings from the office of in Forest Hills.
George Martin Gonta, 64, of Verona waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of recklessly endangering another person, two counts of driving under the influence, careless driving and violating restrictions on alcoholic beverages. Churchill police responded to a two-car crash June 17. Police said Gonta avoided authorities at the scene and when questioned, was unintelligible. He admitted to having a few drinks before the crash and failed a field sobriety test. Police also found a glass in the car that had an alcoholic odor and liquid.
Sontia Burton, 19, of Braddock was held for court on charges of possession of a weapon on school property. Burton, a student at , was taken into custody April 27 after she walked through the metal detectors and authorities found a fixed blade knife in her right boot. Churchill police took her to the station after the guard at the metal detector found the blade.
Charles Robinson, Jr., 32, of Verona waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of possession with intent to deliver, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, following too closely while driving and turning movements / signals required. Robinson, Jr. was arrested April 10 by Churchill police at William Penn Highway and Beulah Road after a traffic stop occurred after he failed to signal for a right turn and then followed the car in front of him too closely, police said. Police then smelled marijuana in the car. They later found an open bottle of Jameson liquor, several bags of marijuana, a digital scale, a cell phone and $836 in cash.
