Open Stage at Living Spirit Ministry Friday

Living Spirit Ministries is hosting an event for performers of all kinds this Friday.

Singers, musicians, dancers, poets, comedians and other artists still have time to register for the Swissvale Open Stage Night set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

Secular and religious performers are invited to participate. A number of musical acts and a local poet are already scheduled to perform.

The ministry’s jazz ensemble will anchor the show. Members of the ensemble are music director Jerry Schneider on keyboard, David Morgan on bass guitar and Da Vontay Rue on drums.

Swissvale poet Juanita M. Moore will read selected poems that she published last year in “From the Window of My Heart.”

Two youths from Oakland, Akash and Ishan Levy, will be among the other performers. Akash will present original compositions for the piano, and Ishan will play ragtime piano selections. Linda and Bill Knapp of Wilkinsburg will offer gospel and secular vocal numbers; Linda formerly sang with Joe Negri.

Ralph Moffatt of West Homestead will sing music from the 1920s, and Barb Simon of Swissvale will perform folk music. Also scheduled to play is the Swissvale pop/rock band Yellow Tip Sneakers.

Admission to the show will be free. The worship center offers easy access; there are no steps.

The Living Spirit Ministry represents a new type of worship experience that places a strong emphasis on music and the arts, in combination with Bible-centered learning and worship with both traditional and creative elements.
