Child Luring Attempt In Delco Lands Charges For Philly Man: Police

Police said a Philadelphia man was taken into custody after he tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his vehicle Monday in Delaware County.

UPPER DARBY, PA — A man is in custody after police said he tried to lure a teenage girl into his vehicle in Delaware County.

Court records show Dwayne Austin, of Philadelphia, was charged with stalking and luring, both misdemeanor crimes, in connection with the incident.

The incident happened Monday on the 8200 block of West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, police said.

According to Upper Darby Police, officers were tipped off to an incident involving a suspicious vehicle and a 13-year-old girl.

The girl told police an adult man in a white Dodge Ram Pickup truck followed her while she was walking. He tried to coerce her into his vehicle, police said.

She refused, and went to a nearby business for safety, police said.

An adult intervened and confronted the driver before he left the area.

Police eventually were able to identify the man as Austin and take him into custody, police said.

Austin was freed after posting 10 percent of $40,000 bail, court records show. He is scheduled for a Jan. 9, 2026 preliminary hearing, according to court documents.
