WALLINGFORD, PA — A Delaware County native's dream came true Monday night: Wallingford's Allie Wilson is heading to the Olympics.

Wilson competed in the finals of the women's 800 meter-race at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

The 28-year-old middle distance runner, who is a graduate of Strath Haven High School, clocked a time of 1:58.32.

She finished behind University of Pennsylvania graduate Nia Akins (1:57.36) and ahead of Juliette Whittaker (1:58.45).

All three women will represent the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"I'm so confused right now," she said with a laugh in a post-race interview.

"I knew I had a chance, but given the depth of the 800 in this country, I knew it wasn't going to be a small feat to make [the U.S. Olympic] team," she said.

Wilson said she was honored to be joining Akins and Whittaker in representing the nation later this summer.

Athing Mu, of Trenton, New Jersey, was the favorite in the race, but her Olympic hopes were foiled when she fell a few hundred meters into the race. Mu was the last to cross the finish line and was seen walking off the track in tears.

On Sunday, she competed in the women's 800-meter semifinals. Wilson won her heat with a time of 2:00.29, sending her to the finals.

Others with local connections who are competing in the track and field finals include Temple University graduate Ajee Wilson, Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh's sister Erin Marsh, University of Pennsylvania graduates Marc Michello and Bella Whitaker, and Randall Cunningham's daughter Vashti Cunningham.
