Haverford Youth Football and Cheerleading Homecoming

For $25 you can attend the event Saturday September 28, held at the Palombaro Club.

The following was submitted to Haverford Patch from Haverford Youth Football and Cheerleading.

Last weekend Haverford Youth Football and Cheerleading held its Homecoming ceremony. After the carnations were handed to family members, and after each cheerleader and football players' names were announced, the kids then gathered in the corner of the turf field to await their cue.

The fog machine veiled the tunnel's entrance, the beginning of “Thunderstruck” boomed over the PA system, then the announcers voice introduced the teams which was exactly what they were waiting for.  The players then burst through the smoke in a sea of red and gold which started each game as tradition on Homecoming.

A plaque dedication in the late afternoon stirred up many emotions among the crowd and organizers. In the off season, tragedy struck twice and the HYF&C community lost 2 of their board members, Jon Tancredi and Edward Stedman.  As a lasting tribute to their devotion to the organization, plaques were presented to their wives and family members midfield in a pre-game ceremony.

Honorary Captains in the coin tosses throughout the day included Commissioners Mario Oliva, Chris Connell and Larry Holmes as well as Recreation Dept.’s Eileen Mottola.

A special “thank you” to John McDonald, representing the Jack McDonald Foundation, was done pre-game.  Their years of continued support to HYF&C as well as many other youth organizations throughout Haverford Township was recognized. Rounding off the festivities will be this weekends “Fun” Raiser.

For $25 you can attend the event Saturday September 28, held at the Palombaro Club. It includes food, drinks, a DJ and raffles.  Some of the raffle items include a Mongoose bike, fire pit with accessories and 16 baskets of cheer.  All the items were donated by members of the organization and local businesses within the community.
