HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board denied Amazon's request to install a sign larger than allowed in the township code.

At its meeting last week, the board heard from an Amazon representative who made the case for allowing the business install a 164-sqaure-foot sign at 403 West Chester Pike in the Llanerch Shopping Center.

Amazon sought a variance to the township's code, which allows for a 50-foot maximum sign.

The previous LA Fitness sign was 108.5 square feet.

In the end, the board voted 4-0 to deny the variance.

Amazon still could install a sign equivalent to the former LA Fitness sign, however, as it is already part of an existing variance.

It's unclear what Amazon's next move could be as it works to open the new store.

Amazon Fresh stores offer in-store grocery shopping and online shopping with delivery options.

Should the Havertown store open, it will mark the second location in Pennsylvania, as Amazon Fresh has a store in Warrington.

Amazon still has a pending liquor license at that location, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
