Turning a Logo Into a Sweet Treat

We told you where the brownies for the U.S. Open come from, but what about the topping?

Earlier this week Haverford Patch , that Merion Golf Club members will be treated to during the 2013 U.S. Open.

The treats are topped with an edible sugar medallion that bears to logo of the event. We were curious as to where those came from.

Enter Alexis Braunfeld and Gina Cox, owners of Sugar Treasures. Braunfeld, a Villanova resident, worked with Merion's logo to make the design. Just like a graphic designer would, she spent hours making sure that the colors, size and pixels were just right.

Braunfeld said she spent from 12 to 15 hours on the logo. It then took four to five hours of labor to get 1,000 of them printed with edible ink on thin sheets of sugar and cut out in a circle shape.

All of the physical labor was done out of Cox's Roxborough home.
