What It Takes to Put Together the U.S. Open

A lot of work has gone into preparing Merion Golf Club and its surroundings into a spot that can host .
According to the USGA, there will be 3,600 tons of HVAC, enough for 1,440 homes and 10 football fields worth of flooring and carpeting. There will be almost seven acres of tented space.
16,804 grandstand seats have been erected for spectators, who will use the 375 portable toilet units (and a few using 36 "high end" restroom trailers), according to USGA.

Of course, all of those spectators and volunteers need to eat, so there will be 100,000 lbs. of Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, 42,000 lbs. of hamburgers and 1,500 kegs of beer, according to USGA.
