When Working the U.S. Open It's Not Always a View of the Green
Michael Walker is a Haverford resident.

I found Haverford resident Michael Walker standing guard near the back entrance to the media dining tent on Thursday. He was in the shade, but his view was of trailers and the scaffolding that props up the dining room.
But that's OK—it's just part of the job, he said. Walker estimates that 700 to 800 people are working the U.S. Open (they get paid a small per hour fee).
He will work all week, and then said he is looking forward to enjoying watching the rest of the tournament this weekend.

Walker's son Michael Jr. will be arriving at Merion Golf Club Friday to work in his capacity as an employee of Golf Magazine.
Living about a half-mile away, Walker told Haverford Patch that "it hasn't been that hectic."

"It isn't as bad as everyone thought it would be," he said of traffic and disruption caused by the tournament.
