Climatic Oddities Are Nothing New
On the six-month anniversary of the October 2011 snowstorm, it's worth remembering that weather weirdness was experienced by our forefathers--including Jazz Age Hellertonians.
For those who have been exasperated by climate change or weird weather, especially since , remember that climate has been an oddity for a few years.
For example, as I was reading "The Records of Service, 1917-1927, published under the auspices of Edward H. Ackerman Post, No. 397, The American Legion, Hellertown, PA," I found a report on the "Hallowe'en Dance Oct. 30, 1925," noted by Jacob C. Schaeffer, Post Historian, who wrote the book and incidentally won a national second place award in competition with all other 47 states' (at the time) Legion Posts for his compilation.
I will quote his words because his language throughout is quite beautiful:

"The freak snowfall on Friday, October 30, 1925, was not a sufficient deterrent to spoil the success of the local legionnaires' Hallowe'en Dance at the Wolf Auditorium, as the masqueraders were there en masse and represented many characters. The auditorium was beautifully decorated with autumn leaves, orange and black streamers. The Echo Lake Orchestra furnishing the jazz for the dancers."
