EMA Director Asks Council to Consider Appointing Assistant
Hellertown emergency management coordinator Chris Scherer recommended that his father, Robert Scherer, be appointed his assistant at Borough Council's April 2 meeting.

has an appointed emergency management coordinator, but there are times when he is away from the borough, and those times could present challenges, told Borough Council April 2.
Scherer, the current coordinator, recommended that council consider appointing an assistant emergency management coordinator to fill in for him when he is away from town or otherwise unable to fulfill his duties.
"The person I have in mind, his name is Robert Scherer," Scherer said.

"He is my father," he added.
Robert Scherer, a Hellertown resident, is well-qualified for the position with a "police background" and a decade of experience in emergency management, Chris Scherer said.

"While he is my father, he is also probably one of the most knowledgeable guys I know in the area," he added.
Councilwoman Gail Nolf asked Scherer if he would turn his emergency management equipment over to an assistant if he were to leave the area, and he said that would most likely be the procedure he would follow.
"I'd like to meet (Robert Scherer)," councilman Mike McKenna said.
Council president Phil Weber recommended that Robert Scherer be invited to speak to council about his qualifications at council's first meeting in May.
Scherer said that as the borough's EM coordinator, he currently receives an annual stipend of about $900.
