Giant Customers Raise $537,000 to Fight Hunger

Giant Food Stores customers donated $537,000 to the store's "Bag Hunger" campaign between Feb. 26 and March 10, 2012.

During the stores' spring "Bag Hunger" campaign--which lasted from Feb. 26 to March 10-- customers donated a record $537,000 to help fight hunger in their communities, the company announced March 29.

"The record response to this spring’s Bag Hunger campaign was extraordinary, and we want to thank our generous customers who joined with us to help local food banks and pantries," Giant president Rick Herring said in a press release. "This donation means that our neighborhood food banks can provide even more meals to hungry children and struggling families."

Recipient food banks include Philabundance, Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Food Bank of Western Maryland, Greater Berks County Food Bank, Water Street Rescue Mission in Lancaster, Food Resources of Washington County, Maryland, and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Virginia.
