Letter to the Editor: District's Book Donation Refusal Begs Answer

Hellertown resident Lee Weidner says the Saucon Valley School District has twice rebuffed his offer of 40 free copies of his local history tome, "Saucon Secrets, Volume I."

To the editor:

Just once I would like a clear, concise answer from a administrator or school board member as to why my offer of 40 free copies of "Saucon Secrets, Volume I, A History of Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township" was turned down twice, once in 2010 and once in 2011.

In these lean budgetary years, is a bit of local history insignificant, or can't the history department fit it into their vast curriculum of teaching current ultra-liberal social values?

Could this be why a college-bound senior did not know who became the first president under the Constitution or where the first home in Hellertown is located? I should have asked a follow-up question: "In what year did the War of 1812 begin?"

Are facts no longer considered important?

Is this why

Incidentally, does one administrator know in what year Hellertown became a borough? I'll give a clue. .

With all due respect,
