Horsham Reports 'Extensive Damage' From Tornado

The township is asking residents who do not live in the area to stay away. An emergency shelter is set up at the community center.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — A tornado caused "extensive damage" in a section of Horsham Township Wednesday night, as the remains of Hurricane Ida battered Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down in Montgomery County, traveling from Fort Washington and Upper Dublin Township up to Horsham Township.

The damaged area in Horsham includes neighborhoods near Carl Kohler Park and Samuel Carpenter Park, neighborhoods west of Limekin Pike between Norristown Road and Prospectville, and neighborhoods southeast of County Line Road between Keith Valley Road and Park Road.

The township is asking residents who do not live in the area to stay away. An emergency shelter is set up at the community center, at 1025 Horsham Road.

The National Weather Service plans to survey damage in Horsham and around Montgomery and Bucks counties, where several reported tornadoes and heavy rain damaged buildings and threatened lives. Three people died in Montgomery County.

  • Limekiln Pike (from Horsham Rd to Welsh Rd)
  • Keith Valley Rd
  • Davis Grove Rd
  • Babylon Rd
  • Downey Dr
  • Jenifer Rd
  • Rutledge Rd
  • Horsham Rd at Babylon Rd
  • Herman Rd

The township set up a website for residents to report damage and get more information. Horsham Fire Company crews responded to dozens of service calls Wednesday night.

The Horsham Chief's Advisory Teams (ChATs) gave special thanks to four residents who helped run shelters Wednesday night: Kathy Dick, Kevin Hick, Bob Thorne, and Chris Weinrich.

Hatboro-Horsham schools are closed today and all open houses and after-school activities are canceled.
