Hatboro Officer Ryan Allen Is Making Some Slow Improvements Since Being Rushed to Hospital
Ryan Allen, the Hatboro K9 officer who was rushed to the hospital since suffering cardiac arrest following a bee sting, slowly improves.

HATBORO, PA — The borough police officer who remains hospitalized in Philadelphia following a cardiac arrest incident brought on by a bee sting last month is making slow improvements, but he still has a long road to recovery, his wife stated.
Officer Ryan Allen, a K9 officer with the Hatboro Police Department, suffered a brain injury and he developed pneumonia and other complications since being hospitalized at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center since mid-October, but he is slowly fighting to improve, his wife, Whitney Allen, posted in a Facebook status update Tuesday.
Louie, Ryan Allen's K9 partner, was even able to visit his handler in the hospital for the second time Tuesday, which came at the suggestion of his attending physician as a way to make Ryan Allen comfortable, Whitney Allen wrote.

"We are hoping to get him to visit more as it is beneficial to his recovery," she posted.
Whitney Allen said the ultimate goal continues to be having her husband completely taken off of his ventilator and breathing on his own, and eventually strong enough to be transferred to a physical rehabilitation facility.

"Pray that he continues wo wean off the vent successfully, that his neurological exams continue to get better and that he doesn't have any more complications," Whitney Allen wrote.
Whitney Allen said her husband continues to fight with a second bout of pneumonia, but that he is definitely making some progress in weaning off of the ventilator and that a recent imaging scan of his lungs showed that he has improved "drastically" from his first bout of pneumonia, which he had developed a couple weeks back.
Patch reported last week that doctors were hoping to soon bring Ryan Allen out of sedation, since he had been sedated ever since being rushed to the hospital following cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, a fundraiser has been scheduled for next month to benefit the Allen family. The event, scheduled to take place beginning at 3 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Crooked Eye Brewery in Hatboro, will feature live music, food, raffles and more.
The Hatboro Police Department also posted on Facebook last week that K9 Louie recently dropped by the department to visit his fellow human officers.
"It was good to see him and we miss Ryan and him immensely," the borough posted.
