Keith Valley Middle School Damaged From Storm

The Hatboro-Horsham School District said the school will be closed until repairs can be made after heavy rains Sunday.

HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —The heavy rains drenched the borough and township with about two inches of rain overnight, flooding roads, stranding motorists, and causing damage to a school.

The Hatboro-Horsham School District reported that due to damage sustained during the storms Sunday night, Keith Valley Middle School and the district's Administration Building are without power and will be closed until repairs can be made.

The district said that all other summer programs at Blair Mill, Crooked Billet, Hallowell, Hatboro-Horsham High School, and Simmons are running as scheduled.

Phone and email for Keith Valley and District Office employees are working and they can be contacted through those channels. "We apologize for any inconvenience," the district said.

Hatboro and Horsham received about 2 inches of rain overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

In Hatboro, the parking lot of the former Pennypack school was flooded and so were many borough roads.

Residents on The Real Voices of Hatboro Facebook page posted flooding pictures and videos near the Rolling Acres Apartments, Norwyn Road, and Monument Avenue and Flamingo Road, where a motorist tried to drive through the flood and got stuck.

"There was a car driving down here and all of a sudden he got stuck, and one of the neighbors actually drove him home. The car was destroyed," Hatboro resident Stacy Zelle told CBS News Philadelphia.

"Once it starts flooding, it's minutes. It comes up quick," Hatboro resident Dominic Greco also told CBS News. "There used to be houses here and it got so bad one, year every house here got condemned."

Jennifer Jakuboski, who has lived on West Monument Avenue for seven years, said the creek nearby floods on a regular basis, but maybe this bad once a year. She told Patch Monday that her home did not experience any flood damage.

Deputy Police Chief Mark Ruegg said there were no more lingering flooding issues Monday.

In Horsham Township, the township and its police department reported several road closures due to flooding late Sunday: Keith Valley Road between County Line Road and Davis Grove Road; Blair Mill Road between Moreland Avenue and County Line Road; Horsham Road from Dresher Road to Easton Road

Welsh Road was also closed in both directions between Jarrettown Road and Village Road and Inverness Drive due to a fallen tree.

Horsham Community Police Services said the first water rescue call came in at 6:30 p.m. Sunday when units were dispatched to the area of Blair Mill and Home roads. The next call was at Mill and York roads at 6:38 p.m. where the fire department assisted Upper Moreland Township.

"It was a busy night for our fire company," Horsham ChATs said. "We had a number of roads flooded and also were sent to assist neighboring agencies. We would like to take this opportunity and thank all of our career and volunteer fire company staff for their service yesterday."

Horsham ChATs said the flooding has dissipated Monday and that no roads were closed.
