A Local Woman Who Volunteered In Hatboro For Many Years Has Passed Away At 83
Mary E. Gemmill, 83, a longtime community volunteer in Hatboro, has passed away at the age of 83. She had worked in nursing.
HATBORO, PA — A longtime community volunteer in Hatboro has passed away at the age of 83, the borough announced Wednesday.
Local officials announced the passing of 83-year-old Mary Gemmill, who served in various volunteer capacities, such as on the Union Library Board and on the Hatboro Emergency Management Team.
"Thank you for your service to Hatboro, Mary! You are greatly missed," the borough posted to its Facebook page.

According to her obituary, Gemmill, who was predeceased by her late husband of 48 years, H. Kenneth, was born in Louisiana and spent much of her younger years between both Louisiana and Pennsylvania.
Gemmill was a 1956 graduate of Roxborough High School in Philadelphia and graduated from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

During her career, she spent time as a hospital staff nurse and head nurse and also spent time working in a chemotherapy unit conducting research on drugs for cancer patients, her obituary states.
She even spent five years living in Saudi Arabia after her husband was transferred there for work briefly.
Gemmill also served as president of both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania chapters of Occupational Health Nurses.
Locally, she served on the boards of the William Tennent House Association in Bucks County and Graeme Park in Horsham Township, Montgomery County.
Gemmill is survived by two sons, a granddaughter, a step-grandson and two step-granddaughters, as well as three step-great-grandchildren.
