George: We sponsor the causes our patients and staff care about, such as charity walks, school events and community sports teams. Also, our doctors frequently speak on vision health to senior groups at YMCAs, retirement communities and religious organizations.

Patch: How does someone know when it is time to see an ophthalmologist?

George: My patients are most often referred by an optometrist (an O.D.) or a primary care physician who suspects an eye condition that should be treated by an ophthalmologist (an M.D.). That’s why it’s important to have a routine eye examinations: for most healthy adults, every one to two years and annually for diabetics, those over 60 and patients with vision disorders. This allows us to treat eye problems early — before vision is compromised.
