Winter Weather Advisory Extended In Montco Tuesday Afternoon

Some snow will persist into the afternoon Tuesday to cause more slippery road conditions, before bitter cold temps settle in.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Snow and ice made for slippery roads and some school closures on Tuesday around Montgomery County, as sub-zero wind chills could sink their teeth into the region on Wednesday.

The Hatboro-Horsham School District was among many in the area that cancelled school on Tuesday amid the dropping temperatures and dangerous road conditions.

Some snow will persist into the afternoon, before temperatures drop for a cold night ahead. A winter weather advisory was extended until 4 p.m. Tuesday for eastern Montco, as additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and light ice accumulations are possible.

Wednesday could be one of the coldest days of the winter, said forecasters, or at least thus far.

"Overall, the short period will be dry and cold," National Weather Service forecasters said in their forecast discussion.

So far, NWS weather spotters have recorded the following snowfall totals in Montgomery County, which were last updated at 1 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Norristown: 3.9 inches
  • Wyncote: 3.3 inches
  • Horsham: 3 inches
  • King of Prussia: 2.6 inches
  • Upper Dublin Twp.: 2 inches
  • Hatfield: 1.8 inches

Tuesday: Cloudy. Snow likely with freezing rain late this morning, then a chance of snow this afternoon. Little or no snow accumulation. Additional ice accumulation around a trace. Cold with highs in the lower 30s. North winds around 10 mph, becoming northwest with gusts up to 25 mph this afternoon. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy in the evening, then clearing. Colder with lows around 11. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Wind chill values as low as 1 below.

Wednesday: Sunny, cold with highs in the lower 20s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Wind chill values as low as 2 below.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear in the evening, then becoming partly cloudy. Cold with lows around 17. West winds 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: Cloudy, cold with highs in the lower 30s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Cloudy. A chance of snow after midnight. Cold with lows in the mid 20s. Chance of snow 40 percent.

Friday: Snow likely, mainly in the morning. Little or no snow accumulation. Cold with highs in the lower 30s. Chance of snow 60 percent.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow in the evening. Cold with lows 15 to 20. Chance of snow 50 percent.
