Hatfield 'Day Of Action' Scheduled For Saturday In Montgomery County

Elected officials will join the community this weekend to raise awareness about what they say is an attack on freedom and rights in the U.S.

Update: 3:20 p.m., Friday — Due to the inclement weather forecast, this day of action has been cancelled.

Editor's Note: Saturday's event is not considered any sort of a protest, but rather a 'day of action' during which participants will be joining neighbors to hand out election information.

HATFIELD, PA — State and federal Democratic elected officials will join community members this coming Saturday for an event that they say is designed to raise awareness of an ongoing attack on the rights and freedoms of certain groups of Americans in today's society.

The program, titled 'Hatfield Day of Action,' will take place Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Plains Park, 50 West Orvilla Road, Hatfield Township.

Those expected to be in attendance include Congresswoman Madeleine Dean, State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-53, State Sen. Maria Collett, D-12, and Ashley Ehasz, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives who is looking to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District in neighboring Bucks County.

Also planning to participate are Pennsylvania Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro and his running mate, Austin Davis, who is currently serving as a Democratic state representative from western Pennsylvania.

"Across our country, we are seeing attacks on the rights and freedoms of many Americans," the Souderton Democrats posted to their Facebook page. "These attacks are becoming successful in other states, and we cannot allow this to happen in Pennsylvania."

The group said it is focusing on getting individuals to vote in this coming November's election in order to "protect the rights of all Pennsylvanians."

Organizers of the Hatfield Day of Action say they will be speaking with friends and neighbors about the importance of electing Democrats to state and federal races and to share "what is at stake this year," according to an event description.

Various types of events and programming have been occurring across Pennsylvania, and in communities nationwide, especially ever since the United States Supreme Court voted to recently overturn the case of Roe v. Wade, which, for five decades, guaranteed a right to an abortion under the U.S. Constitution.

Protests, gatherings and marches have sprung up by groups looking to raise awareness of reproductive rights after the high court said the issue of abortion legislation can be returned to the respective states.
